The pink dragonfly pt. 1

The pink dragonfly. It glistened in the morning sun, reflecting droplets of dew of its translucent wings. In the entire garden, the dragonfly stood out in a sea of green as it rested its legs on a singular leaf.

The dragonfly were some of the first winged insects to evolve, some 300 million years ago. Modern dragonflies have wingspans of only two to five inches, but fossil dragonflies have been found with wingspans of up to two feet. My mind wandered as I imagined the beautiful creature in its giant form. It would make the perfect air craft, standing out in its beauty and elegance with its bright pink hue.

As the winds blew, it clung tighter to the leaf, performing the ultimate balancing act. Once in a while, when the leaf got too turbulent, it would take flight and circle back to a different leaf. Dragonflies are expert fliers, inspiring engineers with their ability to hover and fly straight up and down. In that moment I realised the reason this dragonfly was sent to me.

I stood there, with a cup of tea in hand, enjoying the morning breeze and the lesson imparted from this beautiful creature in front of me. I went back inside, looked down at my masterpiece I had spent all night working on. It was something I was so proud of, and yet it felt incomplete, until now. I bent over it and scribbled ‘the pink dragonfly.’

Yes, that was the perfect name. I smiled as I gathered it in my hands and the machinations of the new day began to come together. Everyone would soon begin to fear and shudder in the name of the ‘pink dragonfly’.
